I believe in God but I never was a fan of organized religion. Because I dislike hypocrisy, I chose not to get married in a church. I opted for a civil ceremony. I had no desire to wear a big white wedding dress, either. Instead I wore a simple but elegant lilac colored designer wedding dress and held a matching bouquet of flowers. There was nothing elaborate about my wedding cake, although the icing also matched my dress. I didn’t pick our fancy wedding invitations. All in all, my wedding was a quiet event. Only immediate family and a few close friends were invited. I didn’t want a big church wedding, a white wedding dress, a huge reception or a honeymoon in the Caribbean. My wedding was low key and relaxed. My honeymoon was a long weekend in Manhattan. It was enough for me. I’ve never liked pomp and ceremony. I was more interested in who I was marrying than the actual event. Nevertheless, there is something about my wedding that I will remember for the rest of my life. It is the look on my husband’s face as I said my vows that will remain etched in my memory forever.
